KARACHI. The volume of domestic exports with goods and services will exceed 38 billion dollars



Karachi: For the first time this financial year, the volume of domestic exports with goods and services will exceed 38 billion dollars. Exports rose 18 percent to 15 15 billion in the first six months of this year, said Arif Ahmad Khan, chief executive of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, in a meeting with a delegation of the Council of Economic and Energy Journalists (CEEJ) on Wednesday. ۔

He said that the focus is on the African market as there are vast opportunities for export of Pakistani products in the African market and there is a lot of potential in the export of rice, pharmaceuticals and IT. He said that at present Pakistan exports rice worth 2.2 billion which could be increased to 5 5 billion by introducing advanced technology in harvesting and processing.


Similarly, the export of Pakistani pharma is only 300 million which can be increased 5 to 6 times in the next few years while there is a huge scope for export of IT. Arif Ahmad Khan said that extensive restructuring has been carried out in the Trade Development Authority, the fruits of which will soon begin to emerge. He acknowledged that high gas and electricity tariffs and crises were affecting exports and manufacturing activities.
