"The city has been under Russian occupation for two days now. We are running out of food and money. We 15 students are trapped here, a friend tried to get out of here but he was hit by Russian soldiers and he came back. We called the Pakistani embassy in Ukraine for help and the official asked, "Where is Somi? We were stunned. Do you really work at the embassy?"
Following the Russian invasion, the Pakistani embassy in Ukraine announced that the majority of Pakistani students were being assisted to leave the country and now there are only a few students who are in Ukraine but one of the Pakistani students. The group is trapped in a Ukrainian city occupied by Russian troops.
On the third day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Sanaullah, from Swabi, in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, and his 14 Pakistani comrades are stranded in the town of Somi, 40-50 km from the Russian border. All of them are Somi State Medical students.
The students called the Pakistani embassy in Ukraine for help and were told to reach the city of Levi or Tranopol.
On the other hand, Major General (Retd) Noel Israel Khokhar, Pakistan's Ambassador to Ukraine, said that he had talked to the students trapped in Somi. Sumi is under the control of Russian forces and we cannot get them out by our own means.
He says he has asked the embassy in Moscow to tell Russian troops to protect the students and that as soon as conditions improve, we will expel them.
